What do you think gives a company a good reputation? What are the criteria for a good business? What businesses do you think have a good reputation (name three not on this list)? What businesses do you think have a poor reputation (name three)?

Comments

  1. A company gets a good reputation from delivering goods or services on time and managed to meet or exceed the expectations of their customers, consistently. A good business is one people rely on without complaining, it is well respected and does not get much bad press and reviews. I think it helps when business determine their target market, not everyone is going to be a customer so they have to aim their businesses at the right group of people who are in need of the services/products. The businesses that I think have a good reputation are Google, Apple, and Windows because they are known worldwide and almost everyone uses their products and services. The businesses I think have a poor reputation are United Airlines, Facebook and the Trump Organization because they are on the news a lot for negative actions or scandals, which continually gives the public a negative view about them.

    2. Marcus I agree with you 100%. I didn't think to add punctuality but that is also extremely important for a business's reputation.

    3. I think you're spot on with the companies you said have a bad reputation. I probably would have said the same thing.

    4. I agree that a company can get good reputation delivering good services, I also agree in the three companies you said that they have good reputation.

  2. A company has a good reputation when the goods/services are good quality and consistent. The criteria for a good business is a company that's sustainable, equitable, and profitable. Some companies with good reputations are Microsoft, Patagonia, and Amazon. A few companies with poor reputations are United Airlines, Uber, and The Trump Organization.

    4. Cam I agree with your criteria for businesses, as well as your choice by putting patagonia as a good reputation business, I find they have great products and good clothes.

  3. The reputation of a business changes for different areas. But these ones have a good reputation all over for key reasons like there availability, in going to focus on Tim Hortons today though. Any small town or highway on the way to anywhere in Canada you are going to see a Tim’s and that’s why the have such a good reputation they are well known they put out something that people want and they consistently do it the same way. They don’t change up or move around and they have so many stores even when you move around you still can go to them. These things give a business a better reputation because they are so well known and so consistent with there product they will always be highly rated. Although there may be some small places with 10x better service they aren’t well known by majority of people and why they don’t make these sorts of lists. Business will always go through times where they have a bad reputation but the don’t always stick. The business may move on and fix it, Samsung at one point had a bad reputation for battery’s exploding and Facebook did for selling information but as the new and media move away from it it starts to become old news. Juul right now has a bad reputation for its marketing to teens but at some point they will get past it.

    1. I think a company gets a good reputation because of their marketing and development. The criteria for a good business are, presentation, quality of product, and the price of product. Tim Horoton’s has great presentation and prices, but the quality of their product is not always the best. I believe that Comcast, Trump Org., and Facebook have terrible reputations. I also believe that Samsung, Disney, and Microsoft have great reputation.

    2. I agree with you, but Tim Hortons could be doing such a better job if they were more places. In Michigan they have a ton but in Texas and lots of southern states in America there aren't any Tim Hortons, so they would have such a better reputation all over.

    3. I agree, I think a company's reputation has a lot to do with size and the area in which it's located.

    4. Jonty I agree with your point of the company juul having a bad reputation, it causes nicotine addictions for kids and can cause serious health problems for our population of children.

  4. Big brands across canada can gain a good reputation from more than one thing. Steve matyas (president of staples) said “Retail is a business of doing a thousand different things right” and he is not wrong in saying this as there are many factors at play in a good business. One of the biggest factors has to be management. For a company to run economically it has to have people that can take on the responsibility of taking charge in intrecut situations and tasks revolving around the business, and its employees. However there are more factors in play in a business for example, Customer service. This is a big factor, as the way employees treat customers. may contribute to whether that customer will return to the company ever again. Companies also have to think about the customer experience online, because if a customer feels lost or confused on there website, there's a great chance they will take there time and money elsewhere. Businesses that i think have a good reputation are tim hortons for there fast reliable service Canadian tire for always having the outdoor essentials and shoppers drug mart for a reliable source for groceries and medicines.
Three brands I feel don't have the best reputation are fast food places like KFC and Mcdonalds purley for the quality of food provided at some of those types of places, but i do feel that dominoes gets a bad reputation as well.

  6. A company can get a good reputation by selling quality products, the company is also stable and has excellent customer care. Customer care is the most important because employees are the face of the company. If the face of the company is disrespectful it will turn customers away from the company.

Some criteria for a good business are quality products, good management and excellent customer care. Without that criteria the customers would feel like the company is not trustworthy and the company’s products are junk. For example, no one wants to buy a phone that glitches and falls apart. Nor do they want to go to a store that is managed poorly or that has terrible customer service.

Three companies that have a good reputation are Apple, Under Armour and Ferrari. These companies have a good reputation because they deliver quality products with good customer care, therefore a customer feels like they have a quality product and can trust the company to take care of them. Apple for example delivers quality iPhones that are very reliable. Under Armour sell clothes that are very durable and comfortable. Ferrari sells high tech cars that are really fast and a lot of people would like one.

Three companies that have a poor reputation are Malaysian Air, Samsung phones and United airlines. These companies demonstrate poor customer care and their products or services have very low quality. For example, one Malaysian airplane was lost in midair while another was shot down by the Russians. Samsung phones have a bad reputation because they are known to catch fire and explode. United Airlines has a bad reputation because the customer care has been known to be very disrespectful.

    1. I agree with you William. I like how you pointed out that Customer care is also an important element of good reputation. Indeed, we as the customers would always like to spend money at places with a welcoming service.

  7. There are three main factors in my opinion that effect a companies reputation, good customer service, quality goods/services, and a stable environment. Customer service is essential when starting a business. It shapes the companies look, by being genuine and nice companies have succeeded tremendously. Quality good/service is in my opinion the most important section, when offering good products at a reasonable price allows a company to generate a profit which keeps the next section running. The stability of a company effects the quality of the goods/services and can even effect the employees emotions towards the company relating towards good customer service. With all these factors a company can succeed extremely, use staples as an example. This also relates directly to the criteria a company needs.

Some companies I find very reliable are and have a good reputation are Mercedes, Apple and McDonalds. All offer quality goods/services with resulting in great cars, quick and good tasting burgers/fast food, and reliable phones and other electronics. They most of the time offer great customer care but meeting all your needs and wants and every business is perfectly stable. Some businesses I chose which have a bad reputation are Air Canada for terrible customer service (in my opinion), Samsung for low quality goods and McDonalds for history involving infected goods such as maggots in burgers.

    1. I agree with you Carter, McDonalds would be oner of my bad reputations if I found out there are maggots in my burger (that's just gross) and costumer serves is essential to starting a business.

    2. I agree with your point and think that some of McDonald's food is bad or not what they claim it was, there have been incidents in the past with this.

    3. I agree quality goods and customer service are two large factors at play in a good business.

  8. In my opinion a company with a good reputation has these things: 1) Delivering goods on time, 2) Good costumer service, 3) Good products and good quality, 4) A variety off items and 5) Cares about the environment. I believe this because they would want people to keep shopping with them so they would offer a great service so more people would come back.

some criteria for a good business is: a variety of products, good costumer service, the quality of the products and good attitude. I believe these are important to a business because they demonstrate what type of business you are, if you are a good or bad business.

Some businesses that have a good reputation are: Sayer's food in Apsley because we always help people when they need it, get things from the back when they are not on the shelves we always talk to them with respect and we will tell them when we get a shipment of what they are looking for. Kawartha Dairy because they ask if you need anything, they have lots if ice-cream to choose from and they have lots of flavours to try. Starbucks because they have lots of drink and food options and they are really friendly.

Some businesses that have a bad reputation are: American Air because Rowe (a passenger on American airline) was told she could not fly unless she covered herself up and there was another woman wearing the same thing but she did not have to cover up. Trump's organizations because they have been in the news for different reasons. Uber because the Uber driver can stalk their passenger or passengers after there're dropped off at their destination.

  9. A company will usually gain a good reputation if they have a high-quality product and good customer service. The company needs to produce and sell their product ethically, with respect people and the environment. It helps to give to charity and hire a good advertising team. Nike's image has benefited greatly from their progressive and motivational ads.
The criteria for a good business:
1: Good product and customer service
    2: Does business ethically
    3: Contributes to its community
I think Nike, Kotn, and Dove have good reputations, while Trump Towers, Air Canada, and the Marchesa fashion line have poor reputations.

    2. Maggie, I agree with all of your criteria and I would add that successful companies are kind to their employees and make them feel like they are contributing to the company.

  10. I think that business reputations come from many things including: ads, product, customer satisfaction, availability, progress, how much a company improves, and more. Another big thing that determines a companies reputation is stocks and how stable a company is. A business should try to have good customer satisfaction, make themselves seen often, and constantly improve. Some companies with a good reputation are xbox, Amazon, Apple, and Microsoft. Some with a bad reputation are Halliburton, American airlines, Bank of America, and Wells Fargo. A companies good or bad reputation depends on the things above but you can see reputations spread and grow on social media wether real reason exists for a reputation or not a reputation can spread easily.

    1. Good point Devon. I like how you talked about the influence of ads and stock market, I didn't think of those two point before. I personally think that a company's reputation determines its stock market. The more stable and praised it is, the more popular it will be at the stock market.

  11. A company gets good reputation from their customers, their good or service have to satiate the need and want of the customers, they would usually also need to have a good business ethic. A company needs to know who group of people they are selling to, know their expectations, their priorities and how much money are they willing to pay. If a company can satiate their customers completely, people would start recommending this company hence gives it a good reputation.

I think Starbucks, Target and Hilton hotel all have a good reputation. One thing they have in common is that they all know who and where to aim for. Starbucks are usually in campus and malls, where people would usually like to get in some caffeine to boost their energy for study or just simply enjoy a cup of coffee when shopping. Targets are usually located in the town center so everyone can visit weekly, and Hilton hotels are usually located on popular traveling cities.

Businesses with poor reputations are Sears, facebook and Bank of America. It seems like they couldn’t state their specialties among other competitors and eventually ends up with bad reputations.

  12. I think what gives companies a good reputation is time for service to complete, sales, employee behavior, store layout/ascetics and pricing, businesses that do not have any of these values may slowly loose business or fail because of customer satisfaction. For example; Canadian tire has nearly all the values listed above and has a very good reputation to this day.

  13. In my opinion a business reputation can come from giving a good service to costumers, make make sure their prices are worth of what they are selling, having punctual deliveries, having quality in their products. Also a good business should make sure they comply with all the terms they are giving, it can also depend on the quality of the work place, having workers that know about the product or service they are giving, applying good warranty on their products, having a comfortable place for clients to be while shopping (clean environment, good illumination, etc.).

I think that three of companies that have a good reputation are Amazon because it's easy to use, they have a good customer service and it's an efficient way to shop. An other company with good reputation could be google because is a great way for people to search information they need in a really fast way. Patagonia is also a company with good reputation because they have great quality products that last a long time, they are also compromised with the environment buy using recycling materials for their clothing.

I believe that three of the companies with worst reputation Monsanto because the products they use are genetically modified and the farmers need to buy new seeds every year because the seeds they sell make the plant not to give more seeds for them to have more sells. An other company with bad reputation is Facebook because the slowness of the page and the resent problems they have had lately, also because the distribution of fake news. In my opinion Foxconn Technology group is an other company with bad reputation because the horrible conditions in their work places, lately workers of that company have been committing suicide because the condition in the fabric they work on (Shenzhen, China)
